VRQ Sunday Lunch Prep Opportunity: November 8

Folks of all ages are invited to join with members of the Serve Council Sunday November 8^th in —Preparing, Cooking and Serving Sunday lunch at the Veterans Restoration Quarters. We will leave the church at 9:30 to start the meal preparation—or you can join the team at the VRQ at 10:00 —or come at 11:45 to serve the meal. Email buzzdurham@gmail.com or call 828.775.5593 to volunteer. You will need to complete a volunteer check in* prior to Sunday. Thank you for honoring our veterans in November.

Winter Caps for VRQ

Grace Covenant's Prayer Shawl Ministry continues its annual mission of knitting winter caps for our veterans. This is a small gesture that has always been received with enthusiasm and gratitude. If you knit or want to learn, please consider creating a few caps to be donated this fall to the men of the Veterans' Quarters. The Prayer Shawl Ministry will have a table set up in the narthex on Sunday, September 9, to share patterns and yarn with interested potential participants. Service Opportunity at Veterans Restoration Quarters

2/22/12 Update: This event has been postponed. Stay tuned for new information!

You are invited to join with the SERVE Council members in preparing and serving the Sunday, March 4^th evening meal at the Veterans Restoration Quarters on Tunnel Road. Along with working with the VRQ kitchen staff in preparing and serving the meal, you will have opportunity to learn more about this ABCCM ministry. The VRQ is a  2-year residential program for 200+ veterans. The evening meal serves around 150 veterans.

The kitchen work begins around 4 p.m. (we will carpool from the church around 3:30), working with the kitchen staff to prepare and cook the evening meal. At 5:30, you will set up the serving line and at 6 sharp begin to serve the supper and then join the veterans at their tables to enjoy the meal and conversation.
