Upcoming Opportunities with the Guatemala Partnership

The Guatemala Partnership
In November, a Delegation from our Sister Church in Guatemala is coming to Asheville to build community with us, here at Grace Covenant. They arrive November 13 to stay for 7 nights. This is such a rich opportunity to learn about living together, and about how prayer and worship are integral to work and living in this disconnected world.

Opportunities to GROW!
We still have several opportunities throughout the week for members to join us and broaden their world while strengthening their faith. A few include:
·         Monday, 11/14 @ 8:30 a.m. Meet at church for introductions & orientation.  Then   Prayer / Meditation Walk through downtown Asheville (Prichard Park, A-Hope, WNC Rescue Mission) co-led led by Bill Buchanan and Sarah Robinson (who will translate). Lunch will be at the Veteran’s Restoration Quarters.  Afternoon visits to the VRQ and Manna Food bank and then siestas by 3.  We have room for five (5) additional GCPC folks to join us for morning, lunch, and/or afternoon on Monday.  Does this call you?
(Max Ungert has invited the entire Guatemalan delegation to their house to celebrate his birthday for a 5:30 dinner!  After Max’s birthday dinner, the Guatemalan guests will come to church and meet with both the Session and then with the Deacons.)

·         Tuesday, 11/15, 9 am: Delegation arrives at church to meet with the Tuesday morning prayer group.  10 a.m. Guests to W. D. Williams Elementary School; Legare Hartbarger is coordinating.  Lynne Meacham and Carolyn Horton will translate.  Lunch will be held at the Clarke’s in Montreat, but we need someone to make the lunches that day.  See SERVE, below.  That evening, the Jividens and Ginnie Stevens are hosting dinners for the Guatemalans in their homes.

·         Wednesday, 11/16, 9 am: service, worship, and lunch at Haywood Street Congregation, where we help ensure food security for our neighbors by sharing produce from the garden.  There is room for FIVE (5) more folks to join us on this day!!  This is an important and creative ministry, where >200 people are fed every day.  There’s worship together for us to share, as well.

·         Wednesday 6 pm: Potluck at GCPC – come exchange ideas and celebrate cultural diversity through song and dance, story and table fellowship. Our Guatemalan friends will be talking about their ministry to our whole congregation at this event.  We will also exchange dances and songs.  Please come – bring soup, bread, and salad.  Legare Hartbarger is coordinating the potluck – with the Journeys class.

·         Thursday  9am: join us on the Blue Ridge Parkway journey.  Susie Wheelis and her daughter Erin are providing lunches! Want to join us at the ranger center, at Craggy Gardens, or climbing Craggy Pinnacle?  Call Carolyn Horton!  Thursday evenings, the Mims and Parker families will host dinners for our guests.

·         Friday   morning: we will work on a project at Kay and Marty Johnson’s home. Want to join us?  Call Carolyn Horton. Someone will need to provide lunches (see SERVE below), and the Clarkes in Montreat are hosting a dinner for our guests Friday night.

·         Saturday, 8 pm: Meet us at the symphony for Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony

·         Sunday: Sunday School, 11 a.m. worship, Culinary Commando-catered meal after church, 5 p.m. worship and youth group visit!  Please come to any and all of these!

There will be more information as we near the visit, but please be considering how you can make the most of this rare opportunity to learn about our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Opportunities to SERVE!
·         Procurers / deliverers (2) of lunches Tuesday (@ Erskine & Nan Clarke’s in Montreat) and Friday (@ Kay & Marty Johnson’s house in N. Asheville).
·         Spanish / English Translators to assist days or evenings, November 14 - 21
