A letter (dated 12/19) to the Helping Hands team:
As we race to the holidays, it is fitting to pause and be grateful for the places where abundance is present in our lives. Starting on November 17 and completed yesterday with a little photo op (see below), you have been particularly responsible for sharing your time, skills, abilities and other resources with Marty, Kaye, Katelyn, Zachary, Jayna, Gabe, and Christian. Your willingness to serve made an immeasurable contribution to a special ministry and a very special family.
As you know, Marty and Kaye have been providing foster care to children at risk for many years. This type of ministry continues to be one of the major ministries of GCPC, led by the SERVE Council. We were very fortunate to be able to collaborate with the Guatemala delegation (Eldemira Mazariegos de Galindo, Lorenzo Evaristo Delgado Similian, Victor Manuel Solano Flores, Eusebia Albina López Hernández, and Maria Francisca Cardona de Torres) on November 18, in particular to accomplish major renovation of the Johnson’s kitchen, bathroom and painting of their laundry room.
From the moment Marty and Kaye were approached about a joint work project at their home until its completion, they have expressed enormous appreciation for everything you did. Mostly, they appreciate the way you honored their ministry with your gentle and respectful kindness and personal interest. As Marty said on more than one occasion, “This came at just the perfect time. You have brought encouragement and energy into our home.”
I do want to thank you for saying yes and being so willing to give your best. Your touch combined with the special touch the Johnson’s have given over the life of their ministry simply makes home and this season all the more reason for gratitude and joy.
Blessings,
Jim Wallis
