Reclaiming Christmas 2012

Do the excess, stress, and expense of the Christmas holiday seem far removed from the simple, sacred birth of Jesus? Remember that ‘Reclaiming Christmas’ is a way to honor the Christ Child by directly supporting those for whom he showed special concern — the poor, the hungry, children, and those who are hurting.

This year Grace Covenant’s SERVE Council has chosen to support the following ministries through the sale of cards

  • Homeward Bound of Asheville
  • Veteran’s Restoration Quarters
  • Black Mountain Home for Children Camp Grier Global Village
  • Healing Art Missions (Haiti)
  • Guatemala Children’s Scholarship Fund
  • Nkhoma Hospital—Malawi, Africa
  •  Mark Hare—PCUSA Missionary (Haiti)

In addition to the adult cards sold above, children can help reclaim Christmas by buying age-appropriate cards for friends, family, and teachers that help those in need. There is a suggested donation of $2/card.  Their two gift options are:

· Nutritious food for children patients at Nkhoma Hospital, Malawi
· School supplies for the Guatemalan recipients of scholarships

Adults can buy special cards for the children in their lives.  The minimum donation per card is $5. Their two gift options are:
· Children’s Ward at Nkhoma Hospital, Malawi,
· Scholarships for Guatemalan children

To participate, find the Reclaiming Christmas Station in the narthex between services on the four Sundays in Advent.  There you can fill out an order form, paper clip it to your check or cash for the correct amount (minimum of $5 per adult card and $2 per child’s card), and give it to a volunteer who will give you the appropriate cards.  (Make checks out to GCPC and mark “Reclaiming Christmas” in the check memo line.)

Thank you for your participation in our mission to reclaim Christmas!
