Volunteer at the Black Mountain Emergency Shelter

The shelter opened in 2010 after 4 people, who were homeless, died from exposure to severe weather. The shelter is located at Black Mountain First Baptist Church on Montreat Road. The shelter is open November through March on nights that the predicted low temperature is 38 degrees or colder. Guests can come into the shelter beginning at 5 PM and leave at 7 AM. Meals are provided by area churches and the shelter is staffed with 2 volunteers for an early shift, 4:45 PM to midnight, and two volunteers for a late shift, 11:45 PM to 7 AM.
