Grace Covenant Community Gardeners and Residents of Larchmont
Apartments have planted 12 dwarf apple trees on their common property
boundary. The dwarf apple trees—Red Fuji, Golden Delicious, Gala, Red Rome, and
Ultra Mac--are the first of an edible landscape to be planted. Yet to come are
blueberries and blackberries. The fruit and berry orchard will be jointly
managed. The apple trees are fully dwarfed—meaning they should not exceed 8-10
feet in height and can be managed from the ground. The blueberries and blackberries should give a modest yield next year and, in 3 years, the apple trees
should begin to yield a late summer to mid-fall apple crop.
