Clothing Donations for Area Migrant Farm Workers

The Migrant Education Program of Buncombe County Schools is organizing a farmworker health fair in Big Sandy Mush/Leicester this summer.  We are seeking donations of baseball hats and long-sleeved or regular t-shirts for migratory farmworker men, women, and youth who pick tomatoes. Your donations will help protect them from the sun and heat while working in the fields.  We'd also love donated soccer balls for children and youth who often live in isolated areas and don't get to participate in extracurricular activities as they migrate.  Donations will be given away at the health fair as incentive for farmworkers to take advantage of much needed health screenings and education that will be offered that day.  Please contact Jackie at 828-777-2297 with questions, and bring any donations to the box in the Information Station. Thank you!
