I'm helping spread the word of a fall kickoff event for Hands & Feet of Asheville,
a local nonprofit organization with ties to the PCUSA's Young Adult
Volunteer program and to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. I'm honored
to be serving on the board of this organization, which brings young
adults to Asheville for a year of service to local nonprofits, living in
intentional Christian community together.
On
behalf of our Board of Directors and our Executive Director Selena
Hilemon, I'd like to invite you to come to our Hands and Feet 2015-16
program year kickoff event, which will be hosted
by Kathy Meacham (who serves as chair of the Board) in her Kenilworth
home on Friday evening September 25, from 5:30-7pm. There is no cost to
attend -- and you can meet our SIX wonderful volunteers for the 2015-16
program year, who have been working in their respective local
organizations for one whole week now, while settling into their own
little community together with each other, in a West Asheville house!
This year's volunteers are all either freshly minted college graduates
or 1-2 years out of college.
Our partner organizations this year include:
-- Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity (hosting 1 volunteer)
-- Beloved Community & Asheville Poverty Initiative (sharing 1 volunteer)
-- Homeward Bound (hosting 2 volunteers)
-- West Asheville Presbyterian Church / The Community on Haywood (hosting 1 volunteer); and
-- YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly (hosting 1 volunteer)

We
are excited to reintroduce the program after a sabbatical year from
active volunteer placement. The PCUSA has provided amazing support for
the Hands and Feet program, which is serving as one of its newest
official "YAV" sites across the USA. If the idea of being involved with
an organization that helps motivated, idealistic, hard working young
adults find their faith, passion, and possibly vocation in service to
community appeals to you -- come out and learn a little bit more! We
would love to keep you in the loop as Hands and Feet launches this
program year.
RSVPs
for the September 25 event are requested by Sunday, September 20th to
Selena Hilemon, our site coordinator / executive director, at handsandfeetavl@gmail.com. Please
consider stopping in -- ask an interested friend or coworker to come
with you! And if you can't make it but would like to be on our "friends"
list to receive the newsletter or other information, I can do that too,
just let me know!
Peace,
Andrea Rosal
Treasurer and Board Member of Hands and Feet of Asheville
