A Unique Opportunity to Eat and Learn | October 13 or 14
The
SERVE Council is excited to provide a unique opportunity to eat and
learn at the Southside Kitchen, a culinary training program of the
nonprofit Green Opportunities (GO) and
affiliated with the AB Tech Culinary Program. GO sponsors a number of
job training and job placement programs to help youth and adults living
in poverty get jobs to support their families and improve community and
environmental health.
Students in the Kitchen Ready training program at GO serve
community lunches every Monday - Thursday, from 12-1 PM, and
incorporate produce from the on-site Southside Community Garden (and,
occasionally, the GCPC Community Garden). Students are responsible for
prepping, cooking, and serving, which allows them to gain valuable
experience in both a commercial kitchen and front of house.
Because
diners sit together at long tables, the meals provide an opportunity to
informally meet folks from very different backgrounds. Donations from
diners are distributed directly to the GO Kitchen Ready trainees, who
use the income to support themselves and their families while enrolled
in the training program.
RSVP by October 11 with Anne Callison Stokely.
Meet at the church parking lot to carpool at 11 AM:
- Tuesday, October 13 | Meet Kristy Farber
- Wednesday, October 14 | Meet Samantha Gonzalez-Block and Heather Gast
