Did you know that 749 children were identified as homeless
in the Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools for the 2014-2015 school
year? Did you know that more than 300 women and children who need safe housing
are on a waiting list at ABCCM’s Steadfast House? Did you know that homeless
shelters do not accept boys aged 12 and older?
Mary Sczudlo, Director of ABCCM Homeless Services, recently
spoke with the Serve Committee at Grace Covenant about Transformation Village, their
exciting new initiative working toward ending homelessness for women, children,
and families. ABCCM has purchased 24 acres across from Asheville Outlets, and has
already raised about $2.5 million in cash and pledges for a 3-phase project
targeted at providing transitional housing for single women, mothers with
children, and intact families in crisis. Ultimately, the project aims to
include recreational areas for children, as well as expanded facilities for
support services for female veterans.

in our own congregation who can provide more information: Samantha
Gonzalez-Block is a new board member, and GCPC member, Aaron Schnurbusch, works
with ABCCM’s Crisis Ministry.
