Ah, finally, no more
“Back-To-School” ads! We’re all done
with the expensive start to a school year.
On to fall colors, football, and cooler temperatures.
Not so fast there!
Though schools in our area run August – May, schools in Guatemala run
January – October. It’s time for us to
think about those forty-five children in Coatepeque we at Grace Covenant helped
send to school in 2013. No doubt their
parents are hoping and praying that their friends at Grace Covenant will be
able to assist them financially once again.
How do our
contributions help? The monies we send
are administered by the Jerusalem Church’s Scholarship Committee (Diego
Jiménez, coordinator; Maria de Torres, treasurer; Gladis de Pérez, liaison with
students). The committee selects
scholarship recipients, sets expectations for students and parents, monitors
grades, and encourages students in their schoolwork and Christian living. As the children tell us in their thank-you
notes, they use the scholarship money for uniforms, notebooks, supplies,
transportation, and books.
While a scholarship
for one student is $ 180, any amount you can contribute will be very
welcome. The deadline for 2014 academic
year contributions is Monday, October 14.
Please send your check with a “Guatemala scholarship 2014” notation to
Grace Covenant bookkeeper Barbara Boyd.

Many thanks to
GCPC Circle No. 1 for their generous donation of $ 100.00 to the
Guatemala Scholarship fund. This will go a long way towards funding a
uniform, books, and school supplies for one of the students selected and
nurtured by our partner Jerusalem Evangelical Presbyterian Church in
Coatepeque, Guatemala. Perhaps other small groups at Grace Covenant
would like to contribute to this important program? Scholarship monies
for the 2014 academic year are due to Barbara Boyd by Monday, October
14. Checks should include the note "Guatemala scholarship".
