GCPC Youth: Caring for Creation

The GCPC youth had a focus on Caring for Creation in March and April.  See below for an overview of their activities!

2/26/12: movie night: a movie and discussion about Mountain Top Removal and where our electricity comes from
3/4/12:  An overview of CLIMATE CHANGE with a powerpoint by 3 Warren Wilson Students.  They were great!
3/11/12: A discussion and games, led by Nikki, a young woman from River Link, about where our CLEAN WATER comes from and what we use water for.
3/18/12: A discussion of why buy local, led by Peter Marks from Appalachian Sustainable Agricultural Project, and a discussion with Buzz Durham about our church's garden.
3/25/12: A tour of Warren Wilson's Sustainable Community.  Then the Middle Schoolers went to see THE LORAX  and then to the HOP for icecream. Their comments were, "Hey, we're buying 'local', but they're serving it in plastic!"   The Senior Highs went back to Grace Covenant to have dinner and learn about Sarah Robinson's new service program for Young People, Hands and Feet of Asheville

4/14/12: GCPC Youth did a clean-up with the New Mount Olive Baptist Youth along Livingston St.  (See photos) Afterwards, they had pizza, donated by Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company at New Mount Olive.
Nathan is trying to get these two youth groups together again to paint a mural at the new apartments being built just behind the post office and also perhaps a river clean-up in June.  We're hoping that we can organize a zipline with Navitat for the Senior Highs with an environmental theme the Tuesday after school lets out.
